This Privacy Policy explains how ontap ("the app," "we," "us") collects, uses, and protects your information. ontap is operated by Luca Drew Preston, an individual developer ("the developer"). By using ontap you agree to the practices described below.
The short version: ontap stores the beers you log, the location of each log (if you allow it), your account details, and an optional profile photo. We use a third-party provider (Supabase) to store this securely. We don't sell your data or show you ads. You can delete your account and all your data at any time from inside the app.
1. Who we are
ontap is an iOS app that lets you log beers with a single tap from a home-screen widget, optionally records where you logged them, and turns that history into personal stats and recaps. The data controller responsible for your information is Luca Drew Preston. You can contact us at luca@getontap.net for any privacy question or request.
2. What we collect
Account information — your email address, username, and an encrypted password, used to create and secure your account.
Beer logs — each time you log a beer, we store a timestamp and (if you grant location permission) the GPS coordinates and a venue name derived from those coordinates.
Location data — precise location is captured only at the moment you log a beer, and only if you have granted location permission. ontap does not track your location in the background or continuously.
Profile photo — if you choose to add an avatar, the image you select or capture is uploaded and stored.
Social data — if you add friends, we store the friendship relationship and your privacy settings (for example, whether you share your location with friends or appear on the leaderboard).
We do not collect data through third-party advertising or analytics SDKs, and we do not serve ads.
3. How we use your information
To create and maintain your account.
To save your beer logs and sync them across your devices.
To generate your personal stats, maps, and monthly/yearly recaps.
To power friend features you opt into, such as the friend list, leaderboard, and shared locations — only according to the privacy settings you choose.
To display your chosen profile photo.
4. Location data, in detail
Location is central to how ontap works, so we want to be specific:
ontap requests location permission so it can attach a place to each beer you log.
Location is read only at the instant you tap to log a beer (including taps from the home-screen or lock-screen widget). It is not collected at any other time.
If you decline location permission, ontap still works — your logs simply won't have a location attached.
Your location history is private to you by default. It is only ever visible to friends if you explicitly enable location sharing in your privacy settings.
5. Who we share data with
We do not sell your personal data. We share it only in these limited cases:
Supabase — our backend provider, which stores your account, beer logs, and avatar on our behalf as a data processor. Their handling of data is governed by their own privacy terms.
Other ontap users — only the specific information you choose to share through friend features and your privacy settings (for example, your username, avatar, beer counts, and — if you enable it — recent locations).
Legal requirements — if required by law, regulation, or valid legal process.
6. Data retention & deletion
We keep your data for as long as your account is active. You can delete your account and all associated data at any time using the "Delete my account" option inside the app, under your profile settings. When you do this, your account, beer logs, location history, friendships, and avatar are permanently removed from our systems.
You may also request deletion by emailing luca@getontap.net. We will action verified requests within 30 days.
7. Your rights
Depending on where you live (for example, under the EU/UK GDPR or the California CCPA), you may have the right to access, correct, export, or delete your personal data, and to object to or restrict certain processing. To exercise any of these rights, contact us at luca@getontap.net.
8. Age requirement
ontap is intended only for users of legal drinking age in their jurisdiction, and in all cases for users 18 years or older. We do not knowingly collect data from anyone under this age. If we learn that we have collected data from someone underage, we will delete it.
9. Security
Your data is stored using industry-standard encrypted connections (HTTPS/TLS) and access controls provided by our backend. Passwords are stored in hashed form and are never visible to us. No system is perfectly secure, but we take reasonable measures to protect your information.
10. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the "Last updated" date above. Significant changes may also be communicated within the app.
11. Contact
For any question about this policy or your data, contact Luca Drew Preston at luca@getontap.net.
